Marche is the area on the Italian Adriatic coast where you can bathe in Rimini and Riccione. Beautiful seaside resorts, where in the past the neat guests rarely drank the local wine on the terraces. Because quality played a subordinate role in the wine growing of Marche. As in many Italian wine regions, this has changed in recent years. Not that all wine from Marche is now immediately something to write home about, there are bottles that will certainly win the hearts of the enthusiast.
Most red wine from Marche is made from the Montepulciano grape. Not to be confused with the Tuscan town of Montepulciano. Excellent wine is made around this town from the Sangiovese grape, under the name Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The wine from the Montepulciano grape from Marche is usually bottled under the name Rosso Conero. The best are matured in barriques and can achieve a very good quality.
More than three quarters of the white wine from Marche is made from the Verdicchio grape. In the past, they could be a bit heavy and bulky in the glass. Traditionally, Verdicchio was fermented with the skins or dried skins were added to the must to restart the fermentation. Fortunately, almost every winemaker from Marche has now converted to modern winemaking and Verdicchio can achieve a pleasant freshness. Verdicchio from Marche comes in various appellations such as Colli Maceratesi, Falerio dei Colli Ascolani or Vernaccia di Serrapetrona.
Less well-known are wines from the Pecorino grape and the Passerina grape from Marche, which mainly grow in the vineyards around Offida. Even less well-known are the Maceratino and the Incrocio Bruni grapes that only grow in the Macerata. Both Spumantes and still wines are made from the Maceratino. The equally obscure Biancame grape is used in Ancona to make excellent white wine with the appellation Bianchello del Metauro DOC.
There is also unknown red from Marche: the Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. A floral, flowery wine from the Lacrima grape. That grape was almost extinct not so long ago. Derzeit haben wir sechs Weine aus Marken in unserem Sortiment. Alle Weine können Sie hier ansehen.
